MATCH PREVIEW: City vs Grantham Town

By Media Team

By James Thompson

The Dollie’s are back in action at the Giant Axe this Saturday for a clash against Grantham Town.

Season Summary
Grantham currently sit in 15th place in the Evo-Stik Premier League table. Two points ahead of Stalybridge Celtic in 16th place. Grantham are on the same amount of points (41) as Lancaster and Matlock Town who sit in 14th and 13th place respectively. So, a win for the Grantham would see them leapfrog the Blue’s in the league table. Overall, Grantham have played 35 league games so far this season, winning 12, drawing five and losing 18.

Recent Form
The beginning of March saw Grantham lose three league fixtures in a row. However, towards the end of the month, they managed to secure a draw and finally a win to end a potentially disastrous month.
Grantham’s previous three league fixtures:
30/3/19 – Grantham vs Witton Albion – 1-0
23/3/19 – Nantwich Town vs Grantham Town – 1-1
16/3/19 – Grantham Town vs Buxton – 0-1

One to Watch – Jack McGovern
With four goals in 22 appearances this season, Grantham’s midfielder Jack McGovern will provide a big threat to City’s back line. His most recent goal saw him score the winner in Grantham’s 1-0 win over Witton Albion.

Previous Meeting
The Dollie’s last meeting with Grantham was back in October, with two goals from Rob Wilson and Matty Blinkhorn secured all three points for City. This was Grantham’s fourth league defeat in a row, a run of form that saw them lose every match they played in the month of October. Looking back, City were unfortunate to not get more goals in a rather one sided match.
