Stanley - The players were fantastic and fully deserved the points

The Dolly Blues have notched their first win of the season tonight after a very competitive match against Buxton FC!

The hosts led at halftime thanks to a Diego DeGirolamo goal but the Dolly Blues were up for the task in the second half.

A great counter-attacking move ended with a Lewis Fensome finish on the 59th minute.
The points were there to be taken, Lancaster and Glenn Steel made sure the Dolly Blues will have something to celebrate on the way back home when he headed a corner in the 90th minute into the net.

Buxton almost made it two apiece, but debutant Jack Sims made a spectacular save right at the death to secure the win.

Craig Stanley has got his first points as caretaker manager but was quick to praise the squad.

“It’s a very good feeling to get my first win as caretaker manager but credit goes to the players. They have been fantastic and fully deserved the three points today. Their performance was first class!
In all honesty, I think we should have won last week’s match against Basford United but we just couldn’t see it out. I also think we should have taken the points off North Ferriby as well. This win has been coming! Now that we have our first win, it’s a bit of weight off our shoulders.

It should also give us more confidence for the future and give the lads belief they can do well in this league! With that in mind, it’s going to be a tough week ahead of us against Farsley Celtic and Basford United but we’re confident we can get some good results.”
Assistant Matthew Blinkhorn also praised the performance.

“Brilliant performance, getting the win feels a lot better than the last six or seven weeks! I think our performances, especially in the league, were very good and should have earned us some points. We certainly got what we deserved today. The last couple of weeks have shown that the lads have nothing to fear when playing the sides in and around the play offs. We need to take great confidence from our first win and now back it up on Tuesday with a positive result.”

The Dolly Blues are back on the road on Tuesday as we face Farsley Celtic at Throstle Nest (LS28 5BE) for a 19:45 Kick off.
