The season has come to an end and before any pre-season plans can begin, we look back on our first season and get manager Phil Brown's thoughts on our first campaign back at this level.
BR: What was the most enjoyable moment of the season for you?
PB: Had a few this season, and although it seems a long time ago I would have to say watching the team go out at Buxton on the first day of the season. Lovely day weather wise and the pitch was excellent. I was proud to be in charge of Lancaster for the first fixture in a long time at NPL Premier Level. To then to come from behind and win 2-1 capped of a great opening day.
BR: What was the toughest moment of the season for you?
PB: Again, there have been a few but losing four players to injury in the opening 45 minutes at Marine was tough to take. Especially when Tom Kilifin was also suffering from a badly gashed knee as well. ‘Life just didn’t seem fair at that moment in time’!
BR: Do you think there’s a big difference between the Northern Premier Division One and the Northern Premier- Premier Division? If so, what are the biggest differences between them?
PB: It was a big learning curve for everyone this season. I feel that it is of vital importance to sustaining your level of performance throughout. If you drop off at any time during a game, you will be punished. Teams in the premier keep going; they maintain a focus and a high level of energy. If you give them an opportunity to get something out of a game, they take it.
BR: Will your experiences from this season change much of the preparations for the next one?
PB: Yes, I think this season will help massively with regards to next season. All connected to the club now know what to expect. That ranges from traveling distances, types of grounds and the level of opposition. I feel this season will be a good foundation to progress next season.
BR: Are there any objectives for next season? What are they?
PB: No targets set as of right now but, obviously the main one will be to remain competitive and stay in the Premier Division.
BR: Will there be many changes to the playing squad before the start of next season?
PB: As you would expect some will leave and some new ones arrive. I have already started speaking to potential new arrivals but it is early days with regards to signings.
BR: Finally, are there any plans for pre-season yet?
